Sam Shaker - Celebrity Artist
Sam Shaker was born in Cairo, Egypt . The father of three grown up children, he owns and operates ‘Jazz After Dark’, a popular music club and art gallery in Soho, London.
Sam is a huge Picasso fan and studied art and graphic design at the ‘Leonardo da Vinci Academy’ and was awarded a diploma in Fine Arts. Soon after, he left his native Cairo for Paris to pursue a career as an artist.
After years of sporadic success – and nearly starving to death – he left art behind, albeit temporarily, to launch and operate ‘Jazz After Dark’.
It was at ‘Jazz After Dark’ that an encounter with Kate Moss spurred him to create again. She commissioned him to paint her portrait, the London media took notice and Sam had quickly established his reputation as a celebrity artist.
Over the last 5 years Amy Winehouse has been a frequent patron of Sam’s club and a very close friend of his. She called him ‘Her Second Dad’ . Sam is very proud to have been such an important part of Amy’s life and was devastated when she died.
Sam was commissioned by Amy over the last 5 years to paint numerous paintings of her and he had hoped to open a gallery with his portraits of Amy with her but sadly this was not to be. For more information about SamShaker
